At the start of Antwerp Art Weekend 2025, the artist collective ZIJspoor – bringing together 46 female artists from Antwerp and beyond – will present a self-organized exhibition at the Old Courthouse, Waalsekaai 35A, 2000 Antwerp. With a focus on autonomy and self-determination, this exhibition offers a platform for emerging talent, allowing each artist to take full control of their creative process. The first exhibition by ZIJspoor will launch during Antwerp Art Weekend 2025 and remain open every Saturday and Sunday until 22.06, giving the public the opportunity to experience the depth and diversity of this independent artistic community.
Located in the heart of the South district, the Old Courthouse is an ideal setting for Antwerp Art Weekend, surrounded by numerous participating venues. Beyond its prime location, the building itself holds symbolic significance – its history and transformation resonate with the themes of the exhibition. Its unconventional character and alternative atmosphere add meaning to the event, especially as it prepares to house the renovated M HKA.
The exhibition will feature a broad spectrum of artistic disciplines, including installations, sculptures, paintings, and more, creating a cohesive dialogue between artists and their interpretations of the theme. Each participant is encouraged to produce new work that breaks away from commercial constraints, ensuring that artistic development remains the primary focus.
